The Author

Rory MuirRory Muir is visiting research fellow in the Department of History, University of Adelaide. His research has coalesced around Wellington and the Peninsular War over the last thirty years, with the last fifteen being devoted to this Life.

His previous books include Tactics and the Experience of Battle in the Age of Napoleon (1998), Britain and the Defeat of Napoleon, 1807-1815 (1996) and Salamanca, 1812 (2001), all of which were published by Yale.

Most recently he edited the letters of Wellington’s most trusted aide-de-Camp, Alexander Gordon, for the Army Records Society (2003).
